Learn what a circle test product is and how to safely use it for testing Shopify features without affecting your store.
Quick answer
A circle test product is a dummy item created by the Shop Circle app to let you safely test product options without affecting real inventory. It is not purchasable and should only be used for testing.
Why a circle test product exists
The Shop Circle Product Options app automatically generates this test product so store owners can experiment with variant options, custom fields, and add-ons before applying them to live items. Because it is a non-real product, there is no risk of accidental orders or inventory changes.
Trade-offs of using a test product
Since the circle test product is not a real item, you cannot use it to verify pricing, shipping, or tax calculations. It is strictly a sandbox for option configurations. For actual purchase flow testing, you would need a real product with a $0 price tag.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a circle test product?
- It is a dummy product automatically generated by the Shop Circle app to help store owners test the Product Options app features. It is not a real product and should not be purchased in a real order.
- How do I use the circle test product?
- Navigate to your Shopify admin, find the product named "#Shop Circle Test Product," and edit its options just as you would with a live product. Add custom fields, swatches, or tiered pricing to see how they appear on the storefront. After testing, you can duplicate the configuration to your actual products.
- Can I delete the circle test product?
- Yes, you can delete it from your admin, but it is safer to keep it. If you need it again later, the Shop Circle app may regenerate a new test product the next time you install or update it. Consider archiving rather than deleting if you plan future tests.
- What should I avoid doing with the test product?
- Do not set it as purchasable, assign real inventory counts, or promote it to customers. Because it has no real-world purpose, doing so could confuse shoppers and create data inaccuracies. Keep it hidden from search and collection pages.
